XOOM 2 & XOOM 2 Media Edition Announced by Motorola

Motorola has announced the XOOM 2 and XOOM 2 Media Edition tablets to continue the XOOM tablet family line. These new devices are slimmer and lighter and a number of improvements have been packed into these slim line models.

The XOOM 2 is the successor of the original XOOM with a 10.1-inch touchscreen protected by Corning Gorilla Glass for a tougher display and a special splash resistant coating to protect it from liquid ingress. Many elements remain the same such as a 5-megapixel camera on the rear, whilst the front facing camera is only 1.2-megapixels compared to the 2-megapixel camera on the original XOOM. The XOOM 2 is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor and includes 16GB of internal memory. One of the biggest differences between these tablets is the weight, as the new version weighs 131 grams less than its predecessor.

The XOOM 2 Media Edition features the same processor, memory and camera as the XOOM 2 and this smaller version has an 8.2-inch display that features the same protective Gorilla Corning Glass. The smaller size and weight also sees this mini version with a slightly lower battery life giving 6 hours of web browsing.

Both models will feature the Android Honeycomb 3.2 OS and are expected to hit the UK this month.
