Xiaomi Mi 4 Unveiled

We may not be familiar with the Xiaomi brand here in the UK but this is a hot manufacturer in China with their handsets proving very popular and taking a look at the latest release, the Xaiomi Mi 4, it’s not hard to see why they have such a following.

The predecessor to the Xiaomi Mi 4 delivered beautiful design and great technology and the latest version looks to improve those aspects even further.

The screen is up there with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S5 or Sony Xperia Z2 in terms of quality. It is a crisp clear 5-inch 1080p HD screen and underneath it sits an impressive 3GB RAM and 2.5GHz processor.

The cameras are both impressive too with a 13-megapixel camera on the back and an 8-megapixel snapper on the front, that’s as good as the main camera on some flagship handsets.

Android KitKat is on board which works with the MIUI 6 UI which gives it a more unique feel than other Android 4.4 handsets.

All of this impressive tech is topped off with a 3080mAh battery which is much better than the power pack seen on some of our most popular handsets in the UK.

The Xiaomi Mi 4 will be released in a 16GB and 64GB version, there is no confirmation if there is a microSD card slot though. Ifrared remote control functionality is on board and the phone will work with the Mi Band.

One of the unique things about the Mi 4 is the case of the phone which can be adorned with a back cover made from wood, bamboo, fabric, marble or leather.

With the powerful quad-core processor and 3GB RAM, Xiaomi say that the Mi 4 is “the world’s fastest smartphone”, however there is no news of any plans for a UK release so if you really want one you may have to import it from China.

The prices aren’t too bad considering the powerful package with the 16GB version coming it at about £200 and the Xiaomi Mi 4 64GB costing around £250.

So does the decent specification of the Xiaomi Mi 4 and the “world’s fastest smartphone” tag line tempt you over to this manufacturer? Would you consider this handset if it became available in the UK? Tell us your thoughts by commenting below or join us on Google+ to join the discussion.
