The Xperia family new additions Active and Ray announced.

Sony Ericsson has added to the popular Xperia range with the announcement of two new handsets, the Xperia Ray and the Xperia Active.

The Xperia ray has popped up on the scene before with various leaked images and rumoured specs and now it has been made official it looks like an impressive little number. The slim handset weighs in at only 100g and sports a 3.3-inch BRAVIA display. All the expected connectivity options are on board with 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS and the memory can be expanded up to 32GB. The optics package is high-spec with an 8.1-megapixel camera featuring the Exmor R backlit sensor and 720p video recording.

The Xperia active as the name suggests is a sporty little handset with dust and water resistance. The screen features a scratch resistant coating and includes wet finger tracking support. The 3-inch display also includes the Mobile BRAVIA Engine and there is a 5-megapixel camera on the back with HD video recording. A number of pre-loaded sports apps are on board including setting a training route using GPS and the built-in compass as well as on screen heat rate and pulse monitoring via ANT+ wireless technology.

Both handsets will include the latest Android v2.3 OS and are set for release later this year, so whether you are lusting after the slim and powerful ray or the sporty and tough active keep an eye on our blog for when you can get your hands on them.
