The thinnest smartphone

Wow, stop the press, we have a a real looker on the scene who would flirtatiously fit into an American size 0. The question is ‘Is this just a looker or is there a personality inside?’

The thinnest smartphone ever from Samsung has just been released in China and Singapore in the form of the Samsung Galaxy A8. This thinnest mobile phone comes in with a waistline of just 5.9mm, but now let us take a look at what else the Samsung Galaxy A8 has to offer.

Galaxy A8 design

To accompany the body, which is 15% thinner than the Galaxy S6, is a metal case that has an ultra-narrow bezel and this in turn makes the 5.7” Super AMOLED display even more dominating.

The screen, which in reality takes us into phablet territory, has a resolution that comes in at 1920 x 1080 pixels and the visual experience is controlled by a 1.5GHz octa-core processor with 2GB RAM. While this isn’t the most powerful processor in the world it does provide a good balance of performance with low power consumption.

Which are the lightest smartphones in the world?

The home button doubles as a fingerprint scanner for security services. The total package weighs in at 151 grams and there is a choice of purchasing either a 16GB or 32GB model. The Samsung Galaxy A8 also has a microSD card slot which excepts values of up to 128GB.

Galaxy A8 camera

The Galaxy A8 camera has a 16MP resolution and the f1.9 aperture is set to allow the camera to capture better pictures in low light. On the opposite side is a 5MP camera with a wide-angle 120 degree lens.

The selfie camera recognises the human palm and showing this instigates the self timer. A wide variety of settings and enhancements are at hand including beautifying features such as face lift and enlarge eyes.

Galaxy A8 features

Samsung has placed its usual set of unique apps into the Galaxy A8, including S Assistant, S Calender and Samsung Cloud, which upon registration provides 10TB of storage for backing anything and everything up.

Samsung Smart Manager permits the monitoring of battery life and traffic and also allows the user to perform a virus scan. This 4G smartphone has a 3,050mAh battery and this should give a standby time of up to 304 hours.

Samsung Galaxy A8 UK release

The Samsung Galaxy A8 will not get a UK release and we shouldn’t be too disappointed about this. The Galaxy A8 may be thinner than the Galaxy S6 but this is its only attribute that outperforms the true flagship device.

The Samsung Galaxy A8 also isn’t the thinnest smartphone in the world either, as that title goes to the Vivo X5 Max at 4.75mm thick.

The alternatives for UK buyers are either the Samsung Galaxy S6 or the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge for premium buyers. For budget buyers there is the Samsung Galaxy A3 or the Samsung Galaxy A5.
