The Samsung Galaxy Mega is now official and this handset takes the next step from phone to tablet with a whopping 6.3-inch touchscreen display. This puts it at a much larger size than other large phones, often referred to as phablets, such as the Galaxy Note II.

The large display is an LCD screen and there is a dual-core processor under the hood as well as 1.5GB RAM for handling app performance. The optics package on the phone includes a 1.9-megapixel camera on the front for video chatting and an 8-megapixel snapper for taking photos and recording video clips.

The most recent version of Android, 4.2, is on board and the phone will be sold in either 8GB or 16GB variants and if that isn’t enough memory for you there will be a microSD card slot too.

The phone includes Infrared which can be used to control the TV or other remote control electronics it only measures 8mm thick but the large screen makes it a bit hefty at 199 grams.

The Galaxy Mega will be LTE/4G compatible, great news if you are on a 4G network or thinking of joining one in the UK.

The release date has now been confirmed for July in the UK so if you can’t decide whether to splash out on a new tablet or to update your mobile phone you could have both in one with the Samsung Galaxy Mega.

Is bigger always better? Do you like this new generation of phone/tablets? Will you use one or do you have one? Would you choose this instead of the Galaxy Note 3 which is heading our way soon?
