Samsung Galaxy A30 review

The Samsung Galaxy A30 is part of the new A range from Samsung. In my Samsung Galaxy A30 review I explore great features including an edge-to-edge display and dual-lens camera.

Samsung Galaxy A30 build

The Samsung Galaxy A30 has an FHD+ 6.4-inch display with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. It gives you a good viewing experience when browsing web pages as you see more of the page. The screen immerses you into video clips when they are displayed in widescreen style in landscape mode.

Samsung has given the smartphone a smooth, glossy finish. This makes the phone a great fit in the hand and gives it a premium feel. The back cover has a 3D cover with the fingerprint sensor placed in a natural place.

The Samsung Galaxy A30 is on offer in Black, Blue, or White. The phone weighs 165g and measures just 7.7mm thick, this phone is slim and compact.

Samsung Galaxy A30 features

The phone has an Exynos 7904 (14nm) processor. The RAM will depend on the model you choose as the 32GB one has 3GB RAM and the 64GB model comes with 4GB RAM. Either of these models offers great performance when multitasking or gaming.

The Samsung Galaxy A30 has a fingerprint sensor placed on the back. This is a responsive sensor that is placed in a position where you would naturally put your finger as you pick up the phone. The phone memory can be expanded if you need more room as there is a microSD card slot which can be used with cards up to 1TB.

The Samsung Galaxy A30 also includes facial recognition for security. You can simply unlock the phone by picking it up and the scanner will recognise you. This is an excellent feature if you want to keep your information secure as only you will be able to unlock the phone.

The Samsung Galaxy A30 is an Android Pie phone and Samsung has enhanced this further with their own One UI. The manufacturer has made this is a more streamlined interface so won’t get duplicated features.

Features of the one UI include:

  • Gesture Navigation – Samsung uses their own version of gesture navigation. You can opt to use gestures instead of the usual buttons. A swipe from the bottom right of the display will open the recently used apps menu. A swipe up from the bottom left of the screen will take you back a step and sliding from the bottom to the middle will take you to the home screen.
  •

  • Improved one-handed use – the improved layout makes it easier to use apps one-handed. The features gives you a viewing area at the top of the display and an input area on the bottom half. The viewing area also disappears as you move down the app so you don’t lose any of the information.
  •

  • Dark Mode – this mode is supported system-wide so you get a dark notification panel, app drawer, etc. The look is excellent and makes for a much more comfortable viewing experience.
  •

  • Gallery Recycle Bin – if you have ever accidentally deleted a photo you wanted to keep, the Recycle Bin is here for you. When a photo is deleted from the Gallery it will sit in the Recycle Bin for 15 days. If you mistakenly delete a photo you can get it back before it is deleted permanently.
  •

  • Keyboard features – some new features have been added to the keyboard including a “Floating mode”. This mode allows you to place the keyboard wherever you want it on the screen. The new Adaptive Theme feature will change the colour of the keyboard based on the background colour of the app you are using.
  •

The Samsung Galaxy A30 boasts a 4,000mAh battery with AI power saving. The phone learns the apps you use and when you are most active. It can manage background tasks and other battery features to make sure you have all the power you need. When you do need to recharge you can in super-quick time with the 15W Fast Charging feature.

Samsung Galaxy A30 camera

The rear camera on the Samsung Galaxy A30 is a dual-lens made up of:

  • 16-megapixel main lens
  • 5-megapixel Ultra-wide camera

The wider 123-degree field of view allows the camera to capture images just as your eye sees them. The 16-megapixel lens takes clear and bright photos. The camera uses AI to recognise scenes and objects. It adjusts the white balance, brightness level, and saturation before you take the shot. This allows you to get great image results whatever you are capturing. AI technology can recognise a number of things such as:

Sunset
Waterfall
Person
City street
Sky
Bird
Food
Flowers
Dog
Scenery
Mountain
Beach
Snow

You want your photos to be as good as possible and with flaw detection, they will be. This feature can detect is someone blinked or backlighting is distorting the photo. It can also detect if someone or part of the image is blurred. Flaw Detection alerts will let you know when any issues are spotted and you can take the photo again.

You get the same 16-megapixel lens used on the back on the front of the phone too. Selfie focus will blur the background for unique image results. AR Emoji and AR stickers allow you to add pops of colour and animations to your images. There is a choice of filters, editing options and enhancements you can choose from to make any photo perfect for sharing.

Verdict:

The Samsung Galaxy A30 gives you the amazing quality you would expect from this manufacturer at a more affordable price. The superb dual-lens camera will delight all mobile photography fans and the excellent performance make this a great phone for work or entertainment.
