Razer Phone 2 review

Razer is well known in the gaming world and when they moved into smartphones, we knew we would be getting some great features. In my Razer Phone 2 review, I take a look at their latest smartphone release.

Razer Phone 2 design

The Razer Phone 2 features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. Stunning graphics and a high refresh rate mean the gaming action is fast-paced and lag-free. The screen has been enhanced when compared to the previous Razer Phone with 50% more brightness and improved colour accuracy. This is the only true 120Hz display used on a smartphone. With UltraMotion technology, created by Razer, you get an amazing gaming performance. Touch sampling and a 120Hz refresh rate give make for responsive gaming action and seamless gameplay.

The Razer Phone 2 has a Snapdragon 845 2.8GHz processor and an optimised cooling system. Vapour cooling chambers spread the heat over a large surface area reducing the risk of hot spots.

The phone has the Razer logo on the back and the maker has included something extra for a unique touch. Rather than going with a simple etched or painted logo on the back, Razer has included Razer Chroma RGB Lighting. You can customise the logo with lighting colours of your choice and sync the logo to incoming notifications. You can choose three different lighting effects: Static, Breathing or Spectrum.

The Razer Phone 2 weighs in at 220g and measures 8.5mm thick and is on offer in black with a choice of either a high-shine mirror finish or matte.

The Razer 2 Phone has a 64GB memory and 8GB RAM, this means performance is superb whatever you are doing. When you first get the phone, that 64GB memory will provide plenty of space for transferring photos and music from your old phone. The Razer Phone 2 is an Android phone and this has been added to with the Nova Launcher Prime. This pre-installed launcher is highly customisable. You can choose everything from skins to multiple settings making the phone truly personalised to you. This is one of the most popular mobile launchers for Android. The polished performance and multitude of options for personalisation have made this launcher a must-have for Android fans.

The Razer Phone 2 includes the Razer Cortex Mobile app. This delivers enhanced games performance and improved system efficiency on the phone while playing. The top features of this include:

    Dolby Atmos sound

As the Razer Phone 2 is an entertainment machine the manufacturer has also focused on providing high-quality audio. Front-facing stereo speakers include Dolby Atmos 5.1 digital surround sound technology. With an extended bass response and support for HDR, this phone is great for catching up on your Netflix favourites on the move.

The phone includes a fingerprint sensor mounted on the side of the device. The Razer Phone 2 fingerprint reader is responsive and quick when it comes to unlocking the phone. The side-mounted position feels natural as it is where your finger will usually sit when picking up the phone.

The Razer Phone 2 has a 4,000mAh battery with Qualcomm QuickCharge+. This power pack will give you plenty of power for all-day use. Wireless charging is available and Razer offers a Razer Chroma wireless charging base (not included).

Razer Phone 2 camera

Capture the world around you in stunning detail with the dual-lens rear camera on the Razer Phone 2. The cameras use Sony IMX Sensors with optical image stabilisation and a wide-angle lens. The advanced colour accuracy and larger pixels captured by the Razer Phone 2 makes for beautiful images that you will want to share. Video capture can be recorded at 4K resolution and other features include dual-LED flash with dual-tone and Dual Phase Detection Autofocus. You get a choice of shooting modes such as HDR, Panorama, and Continuous Shot as well as plenty of post-shot editing features to perfect the final image before sharing it on social media.
