Nokia 5.1 review

The Nokia 5 gets an update, in my Nokia 5.1 review I take a look at what improvements have been made to the latest smartphone from Nokia.

Nokia 5.1 design

The Nokia 5.1 design remains similar to the previous release but you now get a bigger screen. The 5.5-inch display has an 18:9 aspect ratio and even though it’s bigger, the chassis is slimmer due to slimmer bevels. The slimmer dimensions make the phone 2mm thinner than the previous model. The phone is made from a piece of 6,000 series aluminium and the Full HD+ display is protected by Gorilla Glass. The phone is available in a range of colours that have a satin finish including Tempered Blue, Copper and Black.

Nokia 5.1 Features

The new and improved Nokia 5.1 delivers a better performance thanks to the powerful processor. The Nokia 5.1 gets a bump up from a 1.4GHz to a 2GHz processor. This makes for some impressive multitasking and quick launching of apps. There is a small 16GB memory on board but this can be bolstered with a microSD card of 128GB.

The Nokia 5.1 is an Android One phone, this means you have Android Oreo on board with essential apps pre-loaded and fewer extras. This makes for a cleaner OS and keeps the phone running smoothly.

You get the best features of Android Oreo including Google Assistant, Notification dots and picture-in-picture multitasking.

The battery remains the same with a 3,000mAH battery on board. The more efficient OS and other features mean you still get a great amount of usage between charges. You can expect a good 9.4 hours of video playback and up to 19 hours of talk time.

Nokia 5.1 Camera

The improvements on the Nokia 5 series range continues with the camera on the Nokia 5.1. This latest version now has a superb 16-megapixel rear camera with phase detect autofocus. The Google Photos app will give you unlimited storage of your snaps.

The 8-megapixel selfie camera has a wide-angle lens to give you an 84.6-degree field of view. This means you can snap a selfie with more of your friends in the shot or take in more of the landscape.

The Nokia 5.1 is a big step up from the previous versions with improvements on every level. The fantastic display and improved processor make the phone performance even better than before. The camera quality is decent and as it’s an Android One phone making it simple to use.
