microUSB will be the standard charger for EU mobiles in 2011

2011 will see mobile phone chargers standardised to microUSB chargers for European mobile phones. The European Union announced plans to standardise chargers over a year ago with major phone manufacturers agreeing to the move.

All the major players are signed up to the agreement including Nokia, Apple, LG, Blackberry, Sony Ericsson, Samsung and Motorola with handsets complying to the new standard set for release in early 2011. The convenience of a standard charger will appeal to many removing the need to carry different chargers for multiple devices and the added bonus of being able to charge your phone directly from your laptop/computer.

Some handsets already use a microUSB for charging the battery but now the major manufacturers will deliver microUSB chargers with all new handset releases next year.
