LG Optimus 4X HD Super-smartphone Announced

Yet another handset has been officially announced by LG to be debuted at the MWC (with so many announcements over the last few days will they have anything to show us we haven’t seen?). The latest phone announcement from LG is the Optimus 4X HD and this has to be one of the most impressive from the recent list of revelations.

The LG Optimus 2X was amongst the first handset to feature a dual-core processor and LG continue the trend with the 4X putting a Tegra 3 quad-core processor under the hood. The unique 4PLUS 1 architecture of the processor will have four performance cores for handling power hungry tasks such as gaming, HD video playback and multitasking whilst there will be a companion core for taking care of the simpler tasks like calls, email and music playback.

This is the first handset to feature this set up as many phones will be sporting a quad-core processor but not the additional companion core so the LG performance should be pretty impressive when compared to other quad-core phones released at the MWC.

The phone will be sporting a monster 4.7-inch IPS display so gameplay should be impressive on the large screen and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is on board straight out of the box.

Other features will include an 8-megapixel camera, 1.3-megapixel front facing camera and 1GB RAM as well as DLNA, GPS and all this will be crammed into a compact 8.9mm chassis.

The LG Optimus 4X HD is by far the most powerful phone announced so far, but as we know manufacturers are fiercely competitive to take the crown for best smartphone so we shall see if any of the other players deliver anything packing as much punch as this. All this high-end technology makes for an impressive phone but the cost of the phone could make it out of reach for some, could the price tag make this handset lose out on the best smartphone of 2012 honour?
