Huawei Y7 2018 UK review – superb value for money

Huawei has been delivering impressive handsets over the years delivering the best technology available for each price point. In my Huawei Y7 2018 review, I take a look at a smartphone that gives you a lot of bang for your buck.

Huawei Y7 2018 design

The first thing you notice about the Huawei Y7 2018 is the display. The smartphone has a 5.99-inch FullView screen and slim bezels that make it look almost bezel-less. The chassis comes in a high sheen mirror finish in the Blue Mirror colour but if that’s not your thing you can opt for a matte colour in Gold or Black.

The phone feels sleek as it measures just 7.8mm and weighing in at 155g it is not too heavy for putting in a pocket.

Huawei Y7 2018 features

The Huawei Y7 2018 is packed with a lot of good stuff starting with the display. The screen has an HD+ resolution with 1440 x 1770 so you get extra rows of pixels. This is particularly noticeable and useful when using the split screen app feature on Android 8.0

The processor is a 1.4GHz octa-core chip and there is 2GB RAM which puts it where it should be among its competitors. The experience is enhanced the more you use the device as it learns your habits and anticipates usage. This makes it seem much quicker than the affordable processor and low RAM would normally suggest.

The phone has a feature that you only find on higher priced devices currently, namely facial recognition. With Face Unlock the device can scan your features to make sure it’s really you before unlocking the phone.

If you are not a fan of facial recognition you can opt to lock and unlock the phone using the fingerprint sensor. The fingerprint sensor can also be used browse through your photos or turn off an alarm. The sensor is located on the back so it activates easily when you pick up the phone.

Google Android 8 is on board so you get the latest Google Assistant features and access to a huge choice of apps on the Play Store. Huawei has enhanced the OS with their own EMUI which has a lot of different features to make the most of the Huawei phone. If you love to sing your heart out, check out Karaoke mode with sound feedback in real time.

The battery is a 3,000mAh power pack and although that’s not the biggest option out there I still got plenty of usage before needing to charge it at the end of the day.

Huawei Y7 2018 camera

The rear camera is 13-megapixels and all of the shooting modes performed well. You get familiar ones such as Panorama, HDR and Night mode but you also get some extras. The AR features of the camera allow you to add cosplay elements such as different backgrounds or facial features.

The 8-megapixel camera has been enhanced to make the most of your selfies. Studio quality professional lighting effects and a toning flash will give you beautiful results. The selfie camera also includes the cosplay elements using AR technology so you can add fun and unique touches to the shot.

Huawei always delivers the most at every level and the Huawei Y7 2018 is no exception. The amount of great features you get for the price you pay makes this phone amazing value for money. The enhanced camera features and excellent user experience make this a great choice for your next phone.
