Huawei Y6 review

The Huawei Y6 is a budget friendly smartphone that can be picked up on a contract from £13.95 per month.

For this, Huawei have created a smartphone that has good enough qualities for the average Joe or Jill, who doesn’t want to spend a fortune on the latest tech.

The first thing that is very striking is that the 5” display fills 72% of the front face. This makes it look like a much more premium phone and the IPS screen technology means that the screen can be viewed from almost any angle.

The resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels is plenty enough for web browsing/gaming and there is good colour vibrancy and realistic contrast to enhance the visual performance. Virtual buttons sit below the display, although these are not back lit, which can be a minor issue when used in the dark.

The Huawei Y6 is 8.5mm thick and weighs 155g.

Huawei Y6 features

The Huawei Y6 uses the Android Lollipop operating system and is powered by a quad-core 1.1GHz processor with 1GB RAM. This familiar experience lets the user pull down notifications from the top of the screen and new notifications are highlighted by a flashing LED that sits above the screen.

On the bottom of the phone there are two built-in speakers and a BOX integrated sound chamber for enhancing the quality of music. In fact there is a 150% volume enhancement feature, for when you really want to get a party started.

The Google Play icon gives one click access to new app downloads and the Huawei Y6 has an 8GB internal memory for holding these. Turn-by-turn navigation is also possible through GPS.

The 8MP camera on the Huawei Y6 has a wide-aperture that allows more light to hit the camera sensor, for improved low-light photography. An LED flash is also present for illuminating the scene.

Camera features include touch focus, geo-tagging, panorama, HDR and Beauty shot. There is also a rather nifty Bestshoot mode where multiple photos are taken in quick succession and are combined to create a single high-quality result.

Sitting above the screen is a 2MP camera for making video calls or taking a selfie.

Overall, the Huawei Y6 is a good looking phone with good performance and a sensible price tag.
