Huawei Mate X foldable smartphone announced

The foldable smartphone has been talked about for a long time. Some manufacturers have attempted it but it has not quite delivered what users wanted. The new Huawei Mate X foldable smartphone has been announced and it looks like it could be the device we have been waiting for.

Huawei Mate X Price

The practicalities of a foldable smartphone have been a tricky thing for manufacturers to overcome. Previous releases gave us two screens with a hinge or line the middle. This has resulted either in an interrupted screen or a device that is incredibly bulky and heavy. Huawei has been working hard to deliver a new foldable smartphone that will knock out the competition, but it comes at a hefty price.

The Huawei Mate X is a simply stunning device and with a price tag of €2,299, the cost may knock you sideways too. We all know that new technology costs a lot when it first comes out, but this very high price will just be too much for many to swallow. Anyway, if you are happy to hand over your cash here is what you will get for your money.

Huawei Mate X features

The newly launched Huawei Mate X showed off its prowess at the MWC 2019. Huawei introduced us to all that this innovative device could do, although hands-on action was not really forthcoming.

The new folding design gives you an everyday folded screen of 6.6-inches but when opened up you get a tablet-sized 8-inch display.

With a new soft screen technology can bend and stretch numerous times without compromising the quality of the screen. Huawei has used what it calls a Falcon Wing design to create an incredibly thin phone with a stretchable hinge. The newly design hinge moves into a flat and smooth shape when the phone screen is either configuration. This precision-engineered hinge also makes sure the screen does not overstretch.

The bright OLED display has an edge to edge design and opens up to give you a big 8-inch tablet screen. This large display can be used as one large screen for entertainment or gaming or split screen for multitasking.

With 5G on board, the Huawei Mate X is made to withstand the future of mobile phone networks. Although this isn’t the mainstream speed it is coming our way.

Mobile photography fans can enjoy a new feature thanks to the foldable design. The cameras are placed all on the spine of the fold. When taking a selfie you get a true full-screen look at the shot but it comes into its own when taking a photo with the rear camera.

If someone is taking a photo of you, you get to see what they are seeing on the front display shown on the screen on the back. You can adjust your position and make sure you look your best before the snap. This is one of the real benefits of this device and one that everyday users will enjoy.

Security is handled with a fingerprint reader, this is built into the power button on the side. Charging has been ramped up with 55W Huawei Super Charge. This speedy recharge gives you a whopping 85% battery power after just 30 minutes.

Speaking of battery, the Huawei Mate X has a big 4,500mAh power pack. This will certainly help when running all of that extra screen real estate.

Huawei Mate X release date

The official release date of the Huawei Mate X is still to be confirmed. Samsung has already confirmed that their foldable smartphone, the Galaxy Fold, will be out on April 26th so we can expect Huawei to be aiming to reach or beat this date.
