HTC To Launch Own App Store

The Financial Times reported this morning that HTC is hiring staff with a view to starting it’s own App Store. This makes sense – if you’ll excuse the pun – HTC already offers a cloud service to users of the Desire HD and Desire Z, and it’s HTC Hub includes a gateway for discovering apps so it would be relatively simple to add Apps.

HTC already have a few apps on the Windows Phone 7 store so it seems a good move to have a central repository for all of it’s software. By limiting the apps to HTC phones they will be able to exert the kind of control over “user experience” that Apple do with the iPhone but whilst still allowing users the option of getting apps elsewhere.
