Honor 8X review

The Honor brand has been offering some great things of late and in my Honor 8X review, I take a look at this superb phone offering.

Honor 8X design

The first thing to strike you about the Honor 8X is the superb display. The bezels are so slim you get an almost all-screen device. The bottom trim measures just 4.25mm and the 6.5-inch display has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. A screen-to-body ratio of 91% makes this phone great for watching video clips. This optimised screen design gives you a big 6.5-inch display in a device with a body size of a 5.5-inch phone.

The Honor 8X is available in black, blue, pink and red variants. The manufacturing process used to create the colours gives the phone a two-tone effect.

Honor 8X features

Under the hood, Honor has packed the 8X with a Kirin 710 octa-core processor and 6GB RAM. That means you get great performance with everything from multitasking to AR apps handled easily.

This processor also means that gaming is incredible on this device with the GPU optimised to handle AR and VR games with ease. A GPU Turbo Boost delivers impressive gaming while making the most of the available battery power.

The Honor 8X is available in either a 64GB or 128GB models and each of those includes a microSD card slot for adding more space should you need it.

Android is on board giving you all the familiar and latest apps from Google. Google Lens can give you information on landmarks when you snap a photo. It can also find products online if you see something you like when out and about.

Honor has also added their EMUI 8.2 on board to work with the Android OS. This gives you lots of great features and uses a smart file processing system to keep the phone running smoothly.

Face Unlock is on board and this feature has been improved to work quickly so the phone unlocks almost instantly.

A TUV Rheinland approved Eye Comfort Mode is also on board. This feature reduces blue light radiation to combat eye fatigue. Sunlight Mode and Night Mode are also included so you get the best viewing experience whatever the time of day.

The battery is a 3,785mAh unit which takes advantage of the AI technology on board to deliver impressive usage times. The Honor 8X can provide up to 21 hours of talk time or 675 hours of standby time.

Honor 8X Camera

You get a real treat with the dual AI camera on the Honor 8X. This smart camera can detect objects and scenery of various types. The settings are then subtly adjusted to make sure your photo or video capture is always good. The camera can recognise pets, food, landscapes and much more.

When the camera detects that you are taking a nighttime shot it will use multi-frame stabilisation and long exposure to get a superb photo. For fast moving objects, Sports shot will slow the shutter speed when it detects motion to get you a blur-free shot.

Super Slow motion video uses 16X real speed to create short clips and you can record video in manual and automatic modes.

A 16-megapixel camera on the front is great for selfies and includes 4-in1 light fusion and Portrait Lighting for a professional touch. Beauty Mode will enhance various features such as eyelashes, eyebrows or pigmentation and you can add bokeh effects for more drama.

Verdict:

The Honor 8X is a great choice for anyone that loves to take photos with their phones. The incredible processor and AI features take the user experience to a flagship level.
