Google Tablet Coming Our Way

In an interview with an Italian publication Google Chairman Eric Schmidt announced that the company intends to produce a tablet PC and it could be available in less than six months.

When briefly touching upon the subject of the iPad, Schmidt said “In the next six months we plan to market a tablet of the highest quality”. Whether this is to be a Nexus-style tablet sold under the Google brand or collaboration with another manufacturer is yet to be confirmed.

Can the Google tablet compete with the iPad?

Whatever form the Google tablet takes, will it be enough to storm the tablet market? Android tablets are gaining in popularity but still only make up a small proportion of overall sales.

The new tablet is likely to be running on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) that is yet to feature heavily in upcoming tablets. This new version of the OS coupled with Googles own input into the device could make for a very exciting new product.

No official word from Google on Schmidt’s revelation but as he states it will be available in six months it looks like summer next year will be the time that all is revealed.
