The rear cover features a fingerprint sensor and there is a single speaker on the bottom for projecting music and notification sounds. The Pixel is being released in three colour variants; Really Blue, Quite Black and Very Silver.

As this is a Google designed phone you get lots of Android features that you don’t yet see on other phones and there is plenty of other stuffed into the chassis too. The fingerprint sensor keeps the phone secure of course but a downward swipe on the sensor will give you quick access to notifications too, a nice touch.

Under the hood Google has packed the Pixel with a 2.15Ghz quad-core processor, 4GB RAM and the choice of either 32GB or 128GB of internal memory.

Android 7.1 is on board and includes the latest apps including Google Allo, which is a new way to chat as well as the Google Duo for a simplified way to video chat.

A standout feature is the Android Assistant which has been improved and enhanced to do lots of stuff for you using voice commands. The Assistant also works within the Google Allo app so as you chat about plans with friends the app can share directions or suggested web pages for restaurants etc without the need to leave the chat window.

The smaller Pixel has a smaller capacity battery with a 2,770mAh battery on board and this delivers a decent 19 days standby and up to 13 hours of internet browsing.
