Doro PhoneEasy 508: Simple mobile phones

Doro are undoubtedly the experts when it comes to creating simple mobile phones or emergency phones and the Doro PhoneEasy 508 achieves both of these goals.

You may be looking for a mobile phone that is dead simple to use and doesn’t extend itself past simple calling and texting.

Quick action keys

Or, maybe you are looking for a simple phone that has a built-in emergency assistance button that will automatically get in touch with carers or family in case of an accident.

Well, the Doro PhoneEasy 508 provides the solution to both of these scenarios as I found out in my hands-on review.

How does the assistance button work on the Doro PhoneEasy 508?

This fantastic security feature takes very little effort to set up and I believe that the service is an excellent safety solution for those living on their own or who are in ill health.

Prior to use you will need to enter 5 emergency contact numbers which could be those of carers, friends or family. You will also need to enter the text for an SMS message that will sent when the assistance button is pressed.

On the rear of this Doro phone you will find the emergency assistance button that can be activated by pressing and holding for 3 seconds or by pressing twice within 1 second.

At this point an audible alarm sounds for 5 seconds and you have the option to cancel the assistance call, just in case you have activated it by mistake.

Next, the PhoneEasy 508 sends out your text message to all 5 emergency numbers. After this, which takes only a second, the phone will ring the first number in your emergency contact number list.

If the call isn’t answered within 25 seconds then the PhoneEasy 508 will try the next number and so on until the call is answered. Speaker mode is also automatically activated as well for ease of use.

What is ICE?

ICE (In Case of Emergency) is simply a place where you can store all of your important medical information.

You can find the feature in the menu and put in your medication, blood type, doctors details, allergies, emergency contact numbers and anything else that you think might be useful to first responders in the case of a medical emergency.

How easy is it to use the Doro PhoneEasy 508?

The Doro PhoneEasy 508 is one of the simplest mobile phones to use so you can stop worrying about apps or accidentality connecting to the internet.

The buttons are nicely spaced out and there are quick action keys if you want to write a text message, activate the torch or make a call using the two speed dial buttons.

When you switch on the phone for the first time you can quickly use the set-up wizard to set the date, time, font size, ringer volume and ringer sound.

The menu is clear and simple and I loved the fact that you can turn on or off the items shown in the menu. This means that if you don’t use the FM radio or don’t send text messages then you can remove these options from the menu and they will no longer appear.

The phone has an ergonomic design that fits comfortably in the hand and weighs only 81 grams.

As the Doro PhoneEasy 508 doesn’t need lots of energy hungry components you are rewarded with an extremely long lasting battery. This delivers a standby time of up to 370 hours or if you like to talk then you could keep the conversation going for up to 14 hours!
