Curved Virtual Keypad could be coming to Windows Phone 8

A leaked image, supposedly from a Microsoft Research presentation, found by WMPowerUser shows the possibility of a curved virtual keyboard for Windows 8.

This virtual keyboard is designed to cover an area that can be traversed by a thumb and has several letters grouped together on each key. Allowing users to type with just their thumb and working with auto-correct to suggest words this new virtual keyboard is designed to offer the same speed and simplicity to that of Swype.

This change of keyboard design would be a big move away from the traditional virtual keyboards which would suggest it will only be compatible on the new Windows 8 platform, however maybe upgrades would be possible for existing Windows Mobile handsets such as the Lumia 900.

What do you think of this keyboard? Do you think it would be easy to use or just too different to get used to?
