Biometric Tattoos, the next step in wearable technology

The wearables market has been booming for a while now with everyone loving the fitness trackers, smartwatches and more so it comes as no surprise that there are plenty of people working on the wearables of the future. The latest innovation looks to gives us biometric tattoos as the next step in wearable technology.

Cool looking, cool tech

Tattoos may not be everyone’s cup of tea but the wearable applications in these latest biometric tattoos, developed by Chaotic Moon in Texas, are bound to appeal to many that are not up for getting a permanent tattoo..

The company is working on tech tattoos that will be applied temporarily, lasting approximately a year, and these can be used to monitor various things such as heart rate, location, body temperature and more.

Anyone that has used a fitness tracker may have had a similar experience to me where you will go about your day, set off for your fitness activity and realise you have not even had your Fitbit on today – oops! No such problem with these biometric tattoos!

The company developing them has visions of them being used for many applications including monitoring your overall health and sending a report to your doctor so they have a comprehensive record to spot any potential health issues.

Ben Lamm, the CEO of Chaotic Moon, confirmed the biowearables durability when it comes to a choice of uses. “We think there’s military applications for it, health applications for it, and there are all kinds of opportunities around it,” says Lamm in a TechCrunch report. “It’s a platform that basically turns you into a human circuit board.”

Financial applications are also being considered as contactless payments already exist for use with a smartphone the same principal could be applied to the biometric tattoo. So if you are not a fan of wearing a fitness tracker or smartwatch this new development will make you happy.

The system is still in the prototype stage so don’t expect to be getting some biometric ink the near future but this shows an exciting glimpse of wearables will be in a few years time.
