Best Wearable Tech of 2014

The standout trend of 2014 has to be wearable technology with all the top manufacturers throwing their hat in the ring with a watch or fitness band. Here we take a look at the best wearable tech of 2014 – which will you buy?

Moto 360 Smartwatch

The Moto 360 was one of the first smartwatches to actually look more like a watch than previous offerings. Donning a round display and a metallic or leather strap the Moto 360 certainly delivers on the style stakes.

Powered by Android Wear the Moto 360 delivers notifications such as weather updates, message notifications and more all at a simple glance. Simple voice commands using “OK Google”allow you to send messages or check for information online without the need to dig out your phone.

LG G Watch R

The LG G Watch has been quickly superseded by the LG G Watch R announced recently and this latest incarnation sees a more compact and lightweight device when compared to others. The 1.3-inch screen makes it easy to read notifications and alerts and under the hood is a responsive 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor.

The LG G Watch R also uses Android Wear so you will be able to use Google Now for voice commanded tasks. This is the first smartwatch to have a full circle display as other models lose part of their display for sensors.

Samsung Galaxy Gear S

The next Samsung Smartwatch is packing plenty of stuff to keep you happy with your wearable tech. The Galaxy Gear S has a dual-core 1GHz processor packed under the 2-inch display and includes 3G, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi allowing you to make calls even when not near your smartphone.

The Smartwatch has a curved display to fit the contours of your wrist and includes S Health for fitness monitoring and S Voice for digital assistance.

I know the AppleWatch won’t be available until next year but as Apple has teased us with all the details at the iPhone 6 release it makes the list. As with their mobile phones Apple has put a lot of thought into the look of their AppleWatch with the wearable tech being offered in two sizes and different metallic finishes of aluminium, stainless steel or 18 carat gold.

The AppleWatch includes many fitness features as well as all the usual notifications and message applications. The watch also includes Digital Touch which allows you to connect to other AppleWatch wearers with simple a simple tap and includes fun features such as walkie-talkie to send a soundbite.
The smartwatch is here to stay with many manufacturers continuing to work on their wearable technology making it smaller and even more functional so we can expect a whole new bunch of smartwatch designs in 2015.
