Apple iPhone XS Review

In my Apple iPhone XS review I take a look at what the latest offering from Apple delivers.

Apple iPhone XS design

The look of the new iPhone XS has not changed much with the same sleek and slim build as the previous models. The phone is made from the most durable glass ever used on a smartphone. There is glass on the front and back with a stainless steel band around the edge. The iPhone XS is available in the usual Space Grey, Silver and Gold colour variants. The phone is slim at just 7.7mm and weighs in at only 177g.

iPhone XS features

The new Apple iPhone Xs has a 5.8-inch Super Retina display, this has a resolution of 2436 x 1125 pixels. The display is one of the best around with true black and accurate colour production, whatever you are doing it will look simply stunning on this screen.

Apple has ensured you get IP68 certification on this phone so it is dust and water resistant. This along with the tough glass construction make this phone very durable.

As with each new Apple release, the manufacturer has aimed to improve speed and performance. The iPhone XS has the A12 Bionic chip. This is an octa-core processor which delivers 50% faster graphics performance and 15% faster performance compared to the previous chip.

Face ID is still included and this has been made even more efficient. The feature uses the advanced processor to quickly map 30,000 points on your face. The advanced machine learning on board means that the phone will recognise you, even if you put on a hat or are wearing glasses.

iOS 12 is on board giving you the latest innovations from Apple and lots of pre-loaded apps. Siri is on board for helping with tasks and the Animoji feature has four new options.

You get all the usual high-quality apps such as Maps, Health, News and Pages. You can also find a huge amount of new apps to choose from on the iStore.

The battery life on this phone gives you 30 minutes more usage time compared to the iPhone X. The A12 chip delivers 50% more battery efficient. This translates to up to 20 hours of talk time or 12 hours of internet browsing.

iPhone XS camera

The camera on the iPhone XS is one of my favourite features of this latest iPhone model. Apple has always delivered good quality camera technology and this latest iPhone is no exception. The iPhone XS has a dual 12-megapixel made up of a telephoto lens and a wide angle lens. This configuration means you can create beautiful photos with real-time bokeh and Depth Control. Portrait Mode delivers professional looking shots and you can choose from different lighting effects to change the mood of the shot.

The camera includes Smart HDR for better accuracy by using a second image to get shadow and light. The improved sensor reduces noise and captures colours more accurately. The rear camera can also capture 4K video and includes shooting modes such as slow motion.

The selfie camera is a 7-megapixel lens which includes Portrait Mode and Portrait Lighting for great photos. You can use the Memoji effect to create an animated emoji of your face and send video clips or use it during video chats. This feature accurately tracks 50 facial muscles so that the animation really moves and has facial expressions just as you do.

Apple has delivered another great device with the iPhone XS. This is an expensive smartphone but you can see the quality in every feature. The responsiveness, style and superb camera features make this phone superb to use, whatever you are doing.
