The iPhone 5S and 5C are now finally official after all the speculation and information leaks and here we take a closer look at the latest offerings from Apple to the UK smartphone market.


Let’s take a look at what has been pegged to be the more affordable of the iPhone range, although at the same price as an iPhone 4S it’s not exactly cheap.

The Apple iPhone 5C sports the same A6 dual-core processor as seen on the iPhone 5 so you get lots of power for running apps and it also get the very latest iOS 7 operating system which has been optimised for improved multitasking and sees a new cleaner look with simpler icons. Apps included will be Siri, Keynote and Pages and Numbers which are essentially office document apps as well as iPhoto and iMusic for free.


There is an 8-megapixel iSight camera on board so you get HD video recording as well as great photo capture with the latest Camera app offering up Live Filters to add special effects to your photos.


The 4-inch Retina Display has a pixel density of 326 ppi and 4G connectivity as well as Ultrafast Wireless and GPS will be on board. The main change to this “more affordable” iPhone is the redesign of the casing which has been made from seamless plastic with a steel frame within for added strength and comes in a range of bright colours.

The iPhone 5S is the more advanced version of the original iPhone 5 although it retains some of the features such as the 4-inch Retina Display, Home button and weighs the same at 112g.


The phone will be sporting the latest iOS 7 so the advanced features include improved multitasking and the new look app icons as well as a number of apps on board to get started. A new feature of the iPhone 5S is Touch ID which will read your fingerprint when placed on the Home button to unlock the phone and the feature can also be applied to App store and iTunes purchases.


Apple has beefed up the processor with the new A7 chip which is said to deliver up to twice the power of the A6 chip on the iPhone 5, there is also an M7 coprocessor for handling certain tasks making the phone even more efficient and responsive.
