Apple iPad 2 Made Official

The Apple iPad 2 has now been officially launched at an event in San Francisco, said to be faster, slimmer and lighter than its namesake the new iPad 2 is Apples bid to take back some of its lost share of the tablet market.

The iPad 2 features the latest dual core A5 processor that Apple say will deliver better surfing, gaming and media viewing. The new design is 33% thinner and 15% lighter and now features front and rear facing cameras. The new iPad promises up to nine times the graphics for enhanced gaming and better app performance and runs the latest Apple iOS 4.3.

The two cameras have been designed to work with FaceTime video calling so you can have face-to-face conversations and during the call you can switch to the rear camera to share everything that’s happening around you. The rear camera can capture HD video and iMovie is on hand for editing your video clips.

Even with the slimmer lighter design the battery life has remained a decent 10 hours and the 9.7-inch IPS screen with LED backlighting still delivers an impressive viewing performance at any angle. A new iPad Smart Cover will also be available with an innovative magnetic design that fits perfectly over the screen to protect it and when the cover is placed on the iPad it automatically goes into sleep mode, flip open the cover and the iPad comes to life.

The iPad 2 hits the UK on 25th March.
