Altek who? Find out why you won’t be asking this question next year!

The Altek Leo is set to be the first blockbuster of 2011 with a 14-megapixel camera and Android v2.1 operating system. Altek, a Taiwanese manufacturer, are set to make a real name for themselves with this first ever European release and we think they have just made the dedicated camera industry redundant, and here’s why!

Unlike most camera phones the Leo boasts a 3x optical zoom, instead of a digital zoom, to ensure that distant objects can be brought into focus without the loss of detail. A professional quality xenon flash handles low light situations and blink/smile detection ensures the picture is captured at the perfect moment. An image editor is also onboard to add effects and touch up pictures, just like media companies, with popular tools such as fisheye and skin enhancement. Furthermore the Leo can record HD-video at 720p/30fps.

┬áThe large 3.2-inch TFT display is also enhanced for an unrivalled visual experience. A multi-layer coating over the display ensures that the screen is perfectly visible under bright light/sunlight and showing off your latest snaps to multiple friends is easy with the display optimised for viewing at any angle. Altek has also selected a resolution of 480×800 pixels for the display, which makes it perfect for browsing the Internet (3.5G/Wi-Fi connectivity) and using Web page tools such as pinch & zoom and vertical/horizontal scrolling.

The brushed metal exterior provides a high-quality feel and hides away features such as GPS navigation, Bluetooth, a digital compass, expandable MicroSD card slot and all the flexibility of having 1000’s of new applications and content available from the Android Marketplace.

The Altek Leo will set a new standard for others to try and match so keep an eye on our blog and we will provide an update as soon as this smartphone hits the UK.
