These phones have been chosen as they can handle the upgrade without impacting the overall performance and user experience on the handset. Microsoft also stated that the region, service provider and manufacturer could rule out particular devices from being eligible for the Windows 10 upgrade.

The Windows 10 upgrade was planned for a roll out in December but Microsoft delayed a number of times without official word on the reasons although it is thought it has been due to many fixes and updates to the desktop version of the software added to the longer roll out.

If you have a Lumia handset and want to see if you are eligible for the upgrade then you can download the Microsoft Update Advisor as a free app download. The app will check if your phone can handle Windows 10 and will also free up some space for the upgrade for you. (Approx 1.4GB of free space is needed).
