Are you ready for the Nokia N9?

We’ve heard a few rumours about the unannounced N9 being a pretty decent phone but latest images have shown that is it coming with a rather large 4 inch display. The Symbian 3 device will hopefully feature a multi touch capacitive touch screen and a QWERTY keyboard; branching out from Nokia’s usually straight forward designs.  Other features that should be expected on the N9 are an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, 3G and WiFi and an uber handy HDMI port.

We can’t wait for Nokia to get a move on and release some interesting phones especially the highly anticipated N8 which should be available on a number of deals shortly. Keep an eye out for all the N8 deals coming soon to Mobiles Please and we’ll keep you posted on the interesting looking N9.

Ovi Apps get a boost.

The Ovi store is slowly building up a decent set of apps to give Nokia mobiles an app store almost ready to compete with the giant iPhone App store and the Android Market. Recently announced by Nokia is a free application called Own Voice for Ovi Maps. The app gives your phone’s navigation system a great individual feel by recording 53 vocal commands and using them for turn by turn directions from Ovi Maps.

Your own voice commands can be uploaded to the Own Voice website to share with others and you can rate and download others to your own device for a great user experience. This could turn out to be great fun using friends voices to guide you home or having a random crazy person shouting at you to turn down the right street (if that float’s your boat!).

Own Voice is compatible with the latest version of Ovi Maps so will work on the X6, 5800, N97 mini and E72.

Another kooky app from Nokia comes in the form of the Carpe Diem Daily which apparently helps people ‘discover fascinating facts about the world and themselves in an inspired and playful way’.  It basically gives a ‘daily do’ which encourages you to submit interesting text, photos and videos to Nokia’s Carpe Diem website reminding you that something positive happened in your day!

Nokia becomes Top Dog once again.

nokiaMobile phone manufacturer Nokia was once a very clear leader in the mobile phone world but soon became part of a very varied and exciting crowd. With a few strong phones including the N900 and N97 Nokia is now in poll position and stretched its lead by around 9 percentage points recently from second placed Samsung.

In the two months before Christmas Samsung held its place firmly at number one and topped the sales chart with around 33% market share the week before Christmas. This lead has since seen a dramatic 11% drop in market share leaving Nokia with a 30% share and consumer friendly phones X3 and X6 proving popular.

Market researcher GfK have measured the Weekly sales and have seen 3rd placed Sony Ericsson take a 3% loss even after the launch of the Aino, Satio and more recent Vivaz but has seen RIM’s BlackBerry over-take LG with an 11% share and an increased demand for business phones in the mass market.

Here at Mobiles Please we think it is great to see Nokia using innovative and interesting ideas giving users a range of fantastic devices and keeping competition high between all the manufacturers.
