With an official release of the Sony Xperia Z3 we can now confirm the official specifications and features in our Sony Xperia Z3 review.
Sony Xperia Z3 design
The Sony Xperia Z3 design is once again refined and I am delighted to see that the colour range has changed so that this smartphone can stand our against its predecessors. Yes we have black and white again but the new green or copper colours would be my first choice.
Sony’s premium build quality is once again a striking key element of the design and this time around we see durable tempered glass panels set within a super-slim aluminium frame that is just 7.3mm thick and weighs only 152 grams.
The Sony Xperia Z3 will be fully protected against the rigours of daily life with the highest waterproof certification (IP65) available on a smartphone. This will allow the phone to be submerged in or withstand a jet of water for up to 30 minutes.
Inside there is plenty of power with an asynchronous quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor rated at 2.5GHz with 3GB RAM. The internal memory of 16GB, of which 12GB is available for apps and files, can be expanded if needed with a Micro SD card of up to 128GB removing the need to use Cloud storage solutions.
The display is pretty special and measures 5.2-inches with IPS for enhanced viewing angles with a 1080 x 1920 pixel resolution. This is complimented with Live Colour LED technology which is a brand new tech found only in Sony devices.
This technology combines red and green phosphor with blue LED’s with customised colour filters to produce a brighter and more uniform light. This also captures true colours without the risk of oversaturation.
Sony Xperia Z3 features
The Sony Xperia Z3 is the only smartphone with PS4 Remote Play gaming. This means that you can enjoy access to your PS4 games via your home Wi-Fi and play those games from any room in the house with your DUALSHOCK4 controller.
On the audio side of things DSEE HX (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) upscales low resolution songs to near high resolution sound quality by refining heavily compressed MP3 and AAC files. Couple this with Sony’s 3D Surround Sound Technology and music really comes to life and offers the risk of annoying your neighbors!
You will also find the most essential features that are synonymous with great smartphones including GPS, 4G internet connectivity and an Android v4.4 operating system. The Sony Xperia Z3 comes with the Xperia Lounge app built in for sports, music and film content along with competitions and exclusive behind the scenes footage.
All of this means you are going to need plenty of juice and the 3100mAh battery delivers this. A 2 day battery life is being promoted to those who contentiously use their phones whilst in Battery STAMINA Mode the power will last four times longer and offer up to 890 hours standby, 130 hours of music or 10 hours of video.
Sony Xperia Z3 camera
It’s pretty needless to say that the Sony Xperia Z3 camera is pretty special too. The main 20.7 megapixel camera has auto focus, 8x digital zoom, a Pulse LED flash and Superior Auto for automatic scene selection.
Burst Mode will allow you to pick the best resulting photograph and it is easy to share them with Social Live built in. A large camera sensor ensures good results in low light and of course you can shoot underwater too!
The Sony Xperia Z3 camera also offers:
- Object tracking – Lock focus onto a specific object.
- Face In – Overlay your reaction into any shot with the dual camera mode.
- SteadyShot technology – Every predicted movement is counterbalanced automatically for shooting steady videos.
- Video Chat – Use the 2.2MP front-facing camera with HD video chat at 1080p.
- Handycam technology – Allows you to shoot at 4K resolution which is four times more detailed than full HD with 2160 x 3840 pixels.
- AR fun – draw on top of what you see through the viewfinder with animations, objects and messages.
- Movie Creator – Use your photos and videos to create movies with face detection and location tagging.
Sony Xperia Z3 opinion
Once again I believe that Sony has produced a smartphone that can compete and even beat the flagship products from Apple and Samsung. Are you brave enough to switch?
