Sony Xperia XA2 Plus Review

The Sony smartphone range is known for delivering great quality phones to suit any budget. In my Sony Xperia XA2 Plus review, I take a look at a mid-range offering that is superb for entertainment.

Sony Xperia XA2 Plus Design

The Sony Xperia XA2 Plus features the same elongated display that we have seen on the majority of new releases in 2018. This long display has an aspect ratio of 18:9 to display more pixels. This means you see more lines of text on a webpage and you get an almost cinema-like experience when watching video clips in landscape mode.

The beautiful design of the phone features an aluminium frame with precision cut edges and an almost bezel-less look. Sony always offers something above and beyond on the styling of their handsets and this one is no exception. The Sony Xperia XA2 Plus is available in Black, Silver, Gold and Green.

This phone is quite hefty compared to other models. It measures 9.6mm thick and weighs in at 204g.

Sony Xperia XA2 Plus Features

Sony has enhanced the Android 8.0 OS with some of their own extras. These include a Movie Creator app and AR effects for the camera. Google Assistant and other popular apps such as YouTube, Chrome and Maps are already pre-loaded. You can find a whole host of new apps and games to download on Google Play.

The XA2 Plus has a choice of a 32GB or 64GB version and the microSD card slot can be used for cards up to 400GB so you should have plenty of space.

There is a fingerprint sensor on the back and the high capacity battery delivers a decent amount of usage. The Smart Stamina mode will learn how your typical usage of the phone affects the battery. This will then manage the power for you and let you know when you need to switch to Stamina mode to get you to the end of the day.

Sony always adds good audio to their handsets and the XA2 Plus delivers in this aspect too. You get DSEE HX software for amazing sound quality on compressed audio files. The high-resolution audio with Smart Amplifier and built-in equalizer makes your music sound superb.

Sony Xperia XA2 Plus Camera

The fantastic 23-megapixel camera on the back delivers impressive quality for both video and photo. The Superior Autofocus and lens aperture manage the amount of light let in to get the best shot whatever the conditions. The Slow Motion video recording is excellent on this phone and other camera features include 5x Clear Image Zoom and 4K video recording.

Selfie fans will appreciate the many features of the 8-megapixel front camera. The wide angle lens has a 120-degree field of view. You can get lots of people in the shot with you or take in the landscape with your selfie.

Portrait Selfie will illuminate and enhance your features and you can create bokeh effects or use the beauty modes.

Verdict:

Sony always delivers when it comes to quality and this mid-range phone feels superb in every way. It is a little heavier than its competitors but the user experience more than makes up for that.
