According to the latest report from ComScore Google has retained its lead as the preferred OS with Android having 50.9% of the US market share as of May. This is a slight increase of 0.8% compared to the last report in February.
Apple made small gains coming in at second place with 31.9% followed by RIM, Microsoft and Symbian.
The crown for top manufacturer remains with Samsung with 25.6% and with the Samsung Galaxy SIII flying off the shelves this top spot trend looks to continue.
Following behind Samsung in the top OEM category was LG with 19.4% with Apple coming in next at 13.5%. Motorola scored 12.8% of the market share with HTC coming in at the back with just 6.3%. The release of the HTC One X could see these figures increase but it would take big sales numbers to jump up a position.
So both Samsung and Google can sit smugly on the top spot for now having retained their positions since the last report, with the upcoming release of the iPhone 5 could we see something different on the next batch of figures?
Android has a huge lead in the OS market and with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean coming soon the trend could continue but major updates with iOS 6 and Windows Phone 8 on the horizon could make for a more interesting battle next time.
