Motorola Moto X Play Review

 

The Motorola Moto X Play, as the name suggests, is a great phone for mobile entertainment but there is much more to it than that. Here in our Motorola Moto X Play Review we take a look at all this smartphone has to offer.

The Moto X Play sports a thin bezel and the chassis feels solidly built and high quality in the hand. The handset comes in white or black but there are additional back covers that can be purchased to switch up the look if you want to customise it.

The stunning 5.5-inch screen sits within the thin bezel of the case and is protected by Corning Gorilla glass to avoid everyday scratches. The Motorola Moto X Play is covered in a Nano coating that makes the phone water repellent, this should not be confused with waterproof though so no dunking this phone in water please!

Motorola has packed lots of great stuff into the Moto X Play including a powerful 1.7GHz octacore processor and 3GB RAM. There is a choice of either 16GB or 32GB memory models and if space is a concern the microSD card slot accepts cards up to 128GB offering up lots of space for apps, videos, photos and music.

Android Lollipop 5.1 is on board and Motorola has not messed with this as they wanted to offer a “pure Android” experience to Moto X Play users. Tap & Go is a quick and simple way to transfer your apps and contacts from your old NFC enabled phone allowing you to get going with the Moto X Play quickly and easily.

 

The phone can be set up with user modes such as guest modes to keep your private information secure and Priority Mode which only certain people can access.

 

The large screen and front facing speakers deliver fantastic sound and visual quality so mobile gaming on the Moto X Play is superb and Wi-Fi and 4G of are on board for quick browsing or streaming.

 

The Motorola Moto X Play has one of the best battery packs around with a 3,630mAh powerhouse on board giving you at least 30 hours of mixed usage. The phone is also equipped with Turbo Charge to give you a much needed boost offering 8 hours of use from just a 15 minute charge.

The Moto X Play camera has some impressive technology on board to deliver great photo results to even the most novice of photographers. The 21-megapixel rear camera has a blue glass filter to remove infrared from the spectrum to deliver impressively natural results. Dual LED flashes and the CCT (Colour Correlated Temperature) flash adjust the tone of the light according to the conditions so you can capture fantastic detail even in dimly lit rooms or at low light conditions.

The camera fires up quickly and with Quick Capture you simply do a couple of twists of the wrist to start up the camera lens and get the shot you want. Other shooting modes include Burst Mode, auto HDR, Drag & Focus and Panorama and you can capture video action and play back in slow motion.

The front camera has a resolution of 5-megapixels and includes the same blue filter over the lens and colour adjusting flash for capturing the perfect selfie.

 

Verdict

 

The fantastic design and screen on the Moto X Play combined with the powerful processor and raw Android experience make this a superb smartphone. Anyone that loves to capture photos on their mobile will not be disappointed with the many features on both the front and rear cameras making this phone a winner on every level.
