Moto E4 and Moto E4 Plus announced

Motorola has announced that it is updating its Moto E range of affordable smartphones. The new 2017 editions are the Moto E4 and the Moto E4 Plus.

The Motorola Moto E4 will be heading to the UK this summer with a price of around £130. The Motorola Moto E4 Plus will also arrive in the UK this summer and will cost around £175.

The ‘affordable’ end of the market is already flooded with Android smartphones and this is Motorola’s attempt of keeping its handsets relevant, through upgrades across the board.

The Moto E4 has a 5-inch display that has HD resolution, which is handy as the phone can, through its main 8MP camera, shoot HD video (1080p). Both the main camera and the selfie camera have a LED flash and Motorola at least deserves some praise here, for putting equal focus of scenery and portrait photography.

The Moto E4 has Android 7.1 Nougat and this is also a bonus with most other budget Android phones only having version 7.0 installed on them. This latest update gives App Shortcuts, new emoji and access to GIFs through the keyboard, on supporting apps.

A metal design, 1.4GHz processor and a 2,800mAh battery are all also featured.

The Moto E4 Plus adds quite a bit of smartphone goodness to the offering and in particular, in the battery department. There is a whopping 5,000mAh battery, which is one of the largest batteries we have ever seen. This will give two days use to the typical user and can be topped up quickly with a fast charger.

A smooth metal body creates a premium look and feel and once again a water repellent nano-coating has been applied, to ensure that the phone can handle all weather conditions. The screen is expanded to 5.5-inches but the resolution remains the same at HD quality.

The fingerprint reader provides biometric security and unlocking of the Moto E4 Plus and media can be enjoyed through the built in 2-in-1 84dB speaker. This Moto phone weighs 181g, with the extra size and battery reserves making it a little heavier than the basic Moto E4 model.

The main camera has a greater resolution offered through its 13MP lens, while the selfie camera remains the same with a 5MP lens. Amateur photographers can shoot in Beautification Mode, Burst Mode and HDR.

The Moto E4 Plus will be made with two internal memory options of 16GB or 32GB.
