Microsoft today issued press invites for the official launch of Windows Phone 8, which will be held in London on October 29.
Despite HTC and Nokia holding press events for their upcoming WP8 handsets, demos of the upgraded operating system hadn’t gone past the home screen. Therefore, little is known about what changes and updates will be announced when the wrapping finally comes off.
Rumours have been rife of late that Microsoft is set to announce its own Windows Phone 8 handset, although the invite doesn’t give any clues about whether this will take place at the same event. That the invite itself is a pretty standard-looking WP8 handset suggests that this is unlikely to be the case.
Windows Phone 8 is a watershed launch for both Microsoft and Nokia. And with both companies already shelling out considerable marketing dollars to ramp up hype and interest, there is an element of make-or-break about it.
