A leaked video shows a new handset from LG with a whopping 5-inch display, the LG Optimus Vu sports the big touchscreen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. The aspect ratio of 4:3 is uncommon in smartphones (usually used on older model TVs) but this does mean the phone will have a larger surface area than other phones sporting the same screen size.
The video doesn’t really show the performance of the handset but the specs include a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of internal storage and an 8-megapixel camera. The handset is expected to be released with Android 2.3 rather than the latest Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich OS and NFC support will also be included.
Whilst the huge screen would see this handset sit amongst similar big screen phones like the Galaxy Note, the 4:3 aspect ratio will certainly offer something different.
So if you are hankering for days gone by then you may enjoy the LG Optimus Vu that brings the old TV 4:3 ratio to your smartphone, however there is no confirmation as to whether this will be hitting UK shores. So we shall have to see if LG release this to the rest of the mobile markets, watch this space for more information.
