Not long after the latest iPhone 5 images were leaked comes confirmation that Apple is holding an event on September 12, with the smart money suggesting this will be used to launch the new iPhone.
An initial report by iMore has been confirmed and followed up by articles on All Things D, among others, that Apple has scheduled in an event for September 12, but not all outlets are confirming this will be used to launch an update to the iPhone 4S. Yet.
iMore’s post indicates that Apple will also announce the iPad mini at this event, a 7-inch tablet designed to take on Google’s Nexus 7, which was launched this month to rave reviews. Whether Apple will use this even to launch two hugely anticipated products is questionable. And while history favours a September launch for a new iPhone, it’s likely that the Christmas market will be targeted for an iPad mini, with a date probably penciled in for November.
Apple is notoriously secretive when it comes to new product launches, so these leaked images and launch dates is somewhat of a surprise to many. However last week saw Apple’s share price dip after the company’s third quarter results missed market expectations. This, coupled with Samsung’s Galaxy SIII selling over ten million units within the first month of launch, and the Samsung patent case, seems to have forced the company into deflecting the negative press by leaking news that will excite its army of fans the world over. And it seems to have worked, with blogs and Twitter going into overdrive.
Rest assured that Mobilesplease will be the first to bring you the latest on the iPhone 5, confirming its launch date and when it will be available to buy.
