iPhone 5 Made Official

 

 

 

The most anticipated event of the year has kicked off and finally the iPhone 5 has been made official and after so much speculation and rumour has it been worth the wait?

 

The new iPhone 5 is made entirely out of glass and aluminium and will be the thinnest phone ever made by Apple at 7.6mm thick and weighs in at only 112 grams. This is 20% lighter than the iPhone 4S.

 

The Retina Display (326 pixels per inch) and 1136×640 pixels measures 4-inches, which is taller but not wider than all previous iPhone models. The vertical pixels add a 5th row of icons to the home screen and offers a greater amount of web page information in the visible area. A greater area of visible screen is also perfect for reading emails and all iWorks apps are re-done to work with the bigger display along with iLife, iWork, iPhoto and Garageband. Widescreen movies look even better too with 44% more colour saturation than the iPhone 4S, and is now taken to sRGB display specification.

 

The first new feature is Ultrafast Wireless Technology – GPRS, EDGE, EV-DO, HSPA. Now: HDPA+, DC-HSPDA, and LTE, which means 4G LTE has arrived on the iPhone. Wireless speeds of up to 150Mbps will be available.

 

The New chip inside the iPhone is the A6 that offers 2x faster performance overall than the A5 chip and 2x faster graphics offering a huge jump in performance, but 22% smaller.

 

The A6 offers the following speeds in comparison to the A5 chip:

1.7 x Save image from iPhoto app
1.9 x Load music app with songs
1.7 x View Keynote attachment

Real Racing 3 is coming to Apple’s Game Centre later this year with improved features for in game performance such life-like rear mirror views.

 

The battery life is now 8 hours for 3G talk time, 3G browsing, LTE browsing. 10 hours battery life for Wi-Fi and video, 40 hrs for music and 225 hours of standby.

 

The iSight camera offers an 8 megapixel sensor, 3264×2448 resolution, hybrid IR filter, 5 elements lens, f/2.4 aperture and dynamic low light mode, precision lens alignment, sapphire crystal (which protects the lens and improves clarity). Built in panorama mode combines images for a 28 megapixel end result. 1080p video with face detection for up to 8 people is featured and there are three microphones built in for improved audio capture. The front facing camera is now 720p. Wideband fills up more of the frequency spectrum for a more natural voice sound and Orange in the UK will support this.

 

iOS 6 is also confirmed to be ready for the iPhone 5. New Maps app will favour Google, turn-by-turn directions, which use Siri and 3D in both landscape or portrait modes. Flyover effect is also featured with 3D game-level graphics that provide a real-life SimCity feel.

 

Passbook will also feature on the new iOS6, which is the companies’ virtual wallet app with support for Starbucks cards, tickets for concerts, baseball games and flights.

 

Siri can now be used to update your Facebook status, just start our by saying ‘Post_____’. In total there will be more than 200 new features in iOS6.

 

The new iPhone 5 will be available in black and white with the aluminium on the back called slate but the finish appears different on the white and black models.
