Samsung has been driving forward in the area of wearables for a while now with their popular Gear range and the latest addition looks like it could gain an even bigger fan base. The Samsung Galaxy Gear S3 goes official at the IFA 2016 and after seeing the presentation we think a lot of people are going to be adding this device to their wish list.
The Samsung Gear S3 moves into the realms of luxury sports watch looks with a solid steel case and 22mm watch straps and those high-end looks are achieved thanks to the Swiss watch designer Yvan Arpa.
The overall smartwatch dimensions are bigger than the Gear S2 with a 46mm diameter which could make this a little bulky for slim wrists but the overall construction and design elements will be enough to dispel any size concerns.
Samsung Gear S3 Features
The Samsung Gear S3 is IP68 rated so it is dust and water resistant and has military grade ruggedness with Gorilla SR+ glass protecting the display.
The Gear S3 has a rotating bezel with improved features so without the need to tap on the display you can accept or reject calls. The bezel can also be rotated to stop the alarm clock and snooze it and the enhanced screen allows you to write text on the screen and it will convert to text ready to send as a message.
This input method can be used to create reminders, to-do lists and manage a digital schedule using the on board Reminders app.
Samsung Gear S3 Classic
The Gear S3 classic has been designed to emanate luxury iconic timepieces with elegance and balance to create a beautifully balanced smart and sleek looking watch.
There is Wi-Fi and GPS on board and Bluetooth is on board for connecting accessories such as headsets or wireless speakers.
The on board GPS feature is able to work with other sensors such as the speedometer, barometer and altimeter to monitor daily fitness activities giving you the full lowdown on your workout.
There is a dual-core 1GHz processor on board and the Tizen OS while the battery will give up to four days of usage between charges and is recharged with WPC inductive wireless charging.
Samsung Pay has been incorporated into the Gear S3 with NFC and Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) for contactless payments on a registered debit or credit card.
There is an SOS feature which is ideal if you like to go off on lone adventures which will alert family, friends and emergency services with location tracking when activated to inform them you need help.
Gear S3 Frontier
The Samsung Gear S3 Frontier is the rugged of the two smartwatch releases with a more outdoors and sports performance look.
The S3 Frontier has all of the same features of the Classic but it does include 4G capabilities so everything can be done the Frontier without the need of a paired smartphone. There is also a built-in speaker for taking calls hands free or listening to music out loud.
Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Wearable Business, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics, Younghee Lee, said “With the Gear S3, we continue to build on our wearables heritage of offering diverse choices to enhance consumers’ unique lifestyles,”
