Huawei Y7 Review – Mid-range with a big battery

The Huawei range offers devices at all price points and the manufacturer has added a new smartphone to the mid-price range offerings. In our Huawei Y7 review we take a look at this device from Huawei which sees a big battery bump and revamped look.

The Huawei Y7 has a metallic body with a sandblasted surface and rounded edges for a smooth and sleek look. The phone weighs in at 165g and is just 8.35mm thick, the colour options are:Prestige Gold, Grey or Silver.

The front of the phone is covered by 2.5D glass giving the 5.5-inch display a floating look and the curved glass glides seamlessly into the metal body of the phone.

The big 5.5-inch display is perfect for watching videos, mobile gaming or web browsing and it performs well outside. The phone is packing a 1.4GHz octacore processor and 2GB of RAM placing it perfectly well within the mid-range handsets currently on the market.

The Huawei Y7 use the EMUI5.1 which works really well with the Android Nougat OS and it makes the phone easy and great to use.

 

The UI has features like App Twins for running two Facebook or other apps at the same time and there is Eye Comfort mode for reducing eye strain when using the phone for a long time.

There is a PrivateSpace feature for locking away personal files and the Smart Calendar puts all of your events in one place from across all platforms such as SMS, Notes and emails.

 

A big positive for the Huawei Y7 is the battery which is a huge 4,000mAh power pack for plenty of use between charges. This makes it stand out from the crowd as is has one of the larger capacity batteries available. This battery works with innovative power saving technology to offer up to 20 hours of video playback or a whopping 14 hours of web browsing.

The camera on the Huawei Y7 has some high-end features not usually found in a mid-range device such as a 12-megapixel lens with a 1.25μm pixel sensor for allowing in more light and Phase Detect Auto Focus for quick image focusing.

The UI will allow you to show off your captured videos and images in different ways with things like the Highlights app for creating a collage of your images with music and sound effects.

The 8-megapixel selfie camera has a few effects options to create the perfect selfie with Beauty mode for removing blemishes and brightening the face.

 

Verdict:

 

The Huawei Y7 has all the expected features of a mid-range smartphone with some surprises thrown in. The big capacity battery and innovative UI are superb and the camera takes excellent photos and videos. For anyone not wanting to shell out big money on a flagship device the Huawei Y7 is an excellent choice.
