The rumours about the Huawei P9 have been flying out thick and fast for a while now and we finally have the finished product to get to grips with. Here in our Huawei P9 review we show you why this smartphone should be on your wish list when it comes time to upgrade.
Huawei P9 design
Huawei has paid lots of attention to the design of the P9 making the phone feel incredibly luxurious and high-end. The body has been crafted from aerospace-grade aluminium and finished with a polish down to micro-level and diamond cut edges.
The phone is slim at 6.95mm and feels very lightweight as it weighs in at just 144g and stunning display measures 5.2-inches and gently curves at the edges for a floating-display effect.
Huawei P9 Features
The Huawei P9 has Android Marshmallow on board along with the Huawei EMUI 4.1 user interface which gives you a different look to the stock Android OS with extras and tweaks to add to the overall user experience.
The Huawei P9 has taken a big step when it comes to power as it has the Kirin 955 processor on board which is a 2.5GHz octacore chip which delivers 100% more speed than the one used in the P8 and an even more improved 3D graphics performance. All of this translates to a pretty impressive experience when using the phone whether it’s browsing, gaming or downloading apps – The Huawei P9 handles it all seamlessly.
The fingerprint sensor can be set up to keep the phone secure and the Signal+ 2.0 technology ensures the network connection is not lost whatever position the phone is held in.
Wi-Fi is enhanced with Wi-Fi+ 2.0 to detect and connect to the strongest Wi-Fi signal and the built-in powerful microphones can pick up voice from 3 metres away which would be handy for conference calls or sharing the conversation when going hands-free.
The overall performance and feel of this phone make you appreciate how much work has gone into making this a smartphone that is a contender for one of the best smartphones of 2016 and the 3,000mAh battery delivers up to 12hours of HD video play so usage time between charges is impressive too.
Huawei P9 Advanced Camera Features
The Leica camera brand may not be a name you are familiar with but this brand is well-known among professional photographers and Huawei has worked with the company to deliver an extremely impressive camera package on the Huawei P9.
The rear camera system comprises of two 12- megapixel lenses that work together to capture fantastic images by making the most of available light. One of the cameras captures a black and white shot while the other shoots a RGB (Red, Green, Blue) details of the images and these are combined to create one detailed, clear photo.
According to Huawei this method captures up to 300% more detail through 200% more sensitivity when compared to the standard camera setup on a mobile phone, the images captured by the on board camera were really detailed and impressive so if you love mobile photography this phone is a winner.
The Huawei camera app works with the lenses to use features such as laser focus, to add wide aperture effects such as background blur and editing and image manipulation.
The selfie camera on the front is an 8-megapixel lens so you can take great self portraits and it works really well when video calling providing lots of detail to the video feed.
Huawei has put a lot into this phone and it shows with the endless top-end technology and seriously good looking styling and finish, and the impressive camera technology takes this phone over the top for me so if you want something high-end that delivers fantastic photo and video capture the Huawei P9 is the perfect phone for you.
