The Huawei P10 Plus is set for an April 26th release in the UK. The Huawei P10 Plus will be priced at £679.99 SIM free or from £55.99 per month on a two-year contract. The release date is almost three weeks later than that of the smaller P10, so the question is ‘is it worth the wait?’.
Huawei P10 Plus vs Huawei P10
Let’s take a look at how the P10 Plus and P10 compare:
Display – The Huawei P10 Plus has a larger display at 5.5” and this has 2K resolution at 2560 x 1440 pixels, equating to 540 pixels per inch. The P10 has a 5.1” display with Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, equating to 432 pixels per inch.
Processor – Both the P10 Plus and the P10 have a very fast 2.4GHz Kirin 960 processor, but the P10 Plus will be available with 6GB RAM, compared to 4GB RAM on the P10.
Battery – The Huawei P10 Plus has a larger 3,750mAh battery versus a 3,200mAh battery on the P10. The P10 Plus does have a larger display to power though, so usage times per charge may be very similar.
Camera – The Huawei P10 Plus has the Leica Dual Camera 2.0 Pro Edition. The Pro Edition has a wider aperture at F1.8 for a more remarkable low light performance.
Weight – Of course, the P10 Plus is heavier at 165g versus 145g.
Colours – Initially, the P10 Plus will have a larger colour range with Ceramic White, Dazzling Gold, Dazzling Blue, Rose Gold, Greenery, Mystic Silver and Graphite Black all available. The Huawei P10 will be available in Graphite Black, Prestige Gold and Mystic Silver.
So, there clearly is more to gain by going for the Huawei P10 Plus and this should be the model of choice for those that don’t mind a really larger smartphone or paying a little extra for the heightened spec.
Core features of the P10 Plus and P10
Outside of what we have already mentioned above, here are the features that stand out:
The fingerprint sensor has been moved to under the glass of the home key and there is new functionality added. You can now use the fingerprint sensor to lock apps and a personal safe, launch the digital assistant or to scroll through recently used apps.
There will be three different finishing techniques including high gloss, sandblast and a hyper diamond cut finish, which adds brightness, colour and strength.
The Huawei P10 and P10 Plus both use Google’s Android 7.0 Nougat operating system and this is paired up with EMUI 5.1 to bring features such as split screen apps, eye comfort mode and twin apps, where you can be logged into two different social media accounts at the same time.
The new Leica Dual Camera combination includes a 20MP monochrome lens and a 12MP RGB lens. There is a whole heap of portrait studio processing going on with depth of field photography, 3D facial detection, dynamic illuminations and a 2x hybrid zoom.
The 8MP Leica Selfie Cam now captures 200% more light than the selfie camera on the Huawei P9 and to ensure you look your best in every shot, there is a Perfect Selfie Mode, where you can store your beautification preferences.
Finally, both Huawei phones come with Huawei’s SuperCharge technology, which gives fast yet safe charging. Most importantly, the charger to do this is included in the box along with a USB Type-C cable, headset and pre-fitted screen protector.
