HTC U11 UK release 1st June

HTC U11 UK release 1st June

The HTC U11 is set for a release date from the 1st June 2017 in the UK and with Edge Sense, it brings a new class of squeezable interactions. Monthly contract costs are yet to be confirmed but we do know that the handset will cost £649 on a handset only basis.

Edge Sense

The HTC U11 runs on Android 7.1 Nougat and HTC has integrated Edge Sense ‘short squeeze’ and ‘squeeze and hold’ actions with this. The idea of Edge Sense is to make actions even easier and we have a few examples of the actions that can be used:

App launch – Launch your most used app such as Facebook, Pinterest or Twitter
Camera launch – Open the camera by squeezing and then smiling
Text – Squeeze to send a text and use Voice to Text to dictate it
Digital assistant launch – Squeeze to use the Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa

HTC U11 Design

The HTC U11 has a large 5.5” true-to-life display with Quad HD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels). The whole phone is encapsulated in 3D liquid glass and the rear face is highly reflective, an effect that is created through layering precious minerals.

The body is water resistant and inside there is a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor. There is a fingerprint sensor for security and the internal memory of 64GB can be boosted with a microSD card.

HTC U11 Camera

The HTC U11 has a 12MP main camera and a 16MP/UltraPixel selfie camera. You can squeeze the phone to take a photo and the advanced camera features includes UltraSpeed autofocus and Auto HDR Boost. Normally when a HDR photo is taken, there is a delay between the two photos that are merged to create the final result. With HDR Boost, that delay is gone.

HTC U11 Features

Two features stand out here. The first is audio with BoomSound Hi-Fi edition speakers. These give 100% more loudness and there is a separate tweeter and woofer.

HTC Sense Companion

The second feature is the HTC Sense Companion. This learns you daily habits and works to offer suggestions that may be of benefit. This could be letting you know that there are traffic delays and you may want to set off for work earlier. It could also be to let you know that your normal day off has a good weather forecast and you may want to arrange outdoor activities.

HTC U11 Battery

The 3,000mAh battery supports Quick Charge 3.0 and, working with the efficient processor, usage times exceed those seen on the HTC 10.

We are still a week or two away, but if you plan to buy a high-end smartphone, then this may be one to consider next to the LG G6 and the Samsung Galaxy S8.
