HTC Desire 12 review

The HTC Desire 12 is available this month and I take a look at what you get for your money. In my HTC Desire 12 review, I check out this budget offering that delivers surprising quality for the low price tag.

HTC Desire 12 Design

The trend of long and thin phones is the way of 2018 and the HTC Desire 12 is going with it too. The display has the 18:9 aspect ratio for an extra row of pixels. The 5.5-inch display is bright and sits seamlessly into the thin body of the phone. The phone weighs in at just 137g and measures 8.2mm thick.

HTC Desire 12 Features

The HTC Desire 12 is set at the budget end of the market and this is reflected in some of the hardware. The phone has a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 2GB RAM. The onboard memory is 16GB, of which 8GB can be used for storing your photos and other files. There is microSD card slot and this can be used with a card of up to 2TB, so even though you don’t get much memory there is the option to add as much as you could possibly need.

The Desire 12 is packing Android Nougat so you won’t get the latest Oreo version. This helps to keep the cost of the phone low and HTC adds some flair with HTC Sense. The HTC Sense Companion will learn as you use the phone and will be able to preempt tasks. It can automatically remind you of upcoming events and switch off your alarm when you are on holiday.

The HTC Desire 12 has a 2,730mAh battery, while this isn’t the biggest power pack on the market you will still get a full day out of it. If you do start to run low on battery life and you are not near a charging point, power saver mode will keep you going until you can plug the phone in.

HTC Desire 12 camera

The Desire 12 has a 13-megapixel camera and this comes with Phase Detection Autofocus for capturing great shots. There are plenty of shooting options including Panorama and HDR and there are lots of filters to choose from. The camera can capture video in Full HD and includes Video Pic. There is a 5-megapixel selfie camera and this includes beauty mode for smoothing out wrinkles and improving skin tone.

Verdict:

The HTC Desire 12 is not going to beat any flagship devices when it comes to features or specifications, but it’s not trying to. At the price this phone is going for you get a decent performance and a phone with an eye-catching design.
