Google Releases, Then Pulls Gmail iOS app.

Google finally released an app for iOS users for Gmail, only to remove it from the app store due to technical issues. The new app featured push notifications and that appears to be where the problems started resulting in the app being pulled. Google released an official statement saying that “it contained a bug which broke notifications and caused users to see an error message when first opening the app”.

Google say they are working on a fix and a new version should be available soon. Reports from users of the app seem to show that not much time or attention was paid to the functionality or usability and the whole thing seemed to be a rush job. As Google has its own Android platform, perhaps it’s natural they wouldn’t put too much of a focus on an iOS app but releasing shoddy apps is not something we expect from Google.
