The moment you pick up the Pixel 2 you can feel the quality of the aluminium unibody. The sleek chassis encompasses the 5-inch AMOLED display. The overall look and feel of this phone is superb with Google delivering a phone that feels like a top quality product. The Google Pixel 2 is available in three colours: Just Black, Clearly White and Kinda Blue.

Google Pixel 2 features

The Google Pixel 2 has plenty of great features to talk about, the first one is the Always On display. This is a feature we are seeing in more and more devices. The display shows the time, date and incoming notifications when the screen is in sleep mode. This removes the need to keep waking the device to check the time or see what the notification noise relates to. This saves a lot of battery life and a lot of picking the phone up constantly to check the time.

The phone is IP67 certified so it is water resistant and the screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The trend of ditching a 3.5mm audio connector is continued on this device. There is a USB Type-C digital headphone jack instead, although you can still use your old headphones with the provided adapter.

The fingerprint sensor on the back is situated in a natural position, this makes it easy to unlock the device without too much fiddling about.

One of the unusual features of the Google Pixel 2 is the Squeezable Active Edge. This feature activates the new and improved Google Assistant by squeezing the sides of the phone. This was actually quite good to use as I could simply squeeze the phone and tell the Google Assistant to change the settings on the phone or launch apps quickly and easily.

The new Android Oreo OS is on board and the most notable features of this OS are the picture-in-picture apps and new Notification Dots. These were a quick and easy way to see what was new within an app and swipe away the dots once you have caught up with everything. The powerful 2.35GHz octacore processor and 4GB RAM delivered impressive performance and the audio was impressive through the high definition stereo speakers.

The Google Pixel 2 includes updates for the next three years at least, meaning if you get this device you will keep up with the latest Android OS updates throughout your contract.

The battery is a 2,700mAh unit and it includes Quick Charge which works really well. From a quick 15 minutes charge the battery was boosted with another 7 hours of usage time.

The rear 12.2-megapixel camera captures impressive quality photos thanks to Dual-pixel phase detection and laser autofocus. It may not be a dual-lens camera, as seen on other flagships, but you can still capture excellent photos and blur elements of the image when shooting with either camera.

The Google Pixel 2 is up there when it comes to pricing, but when you see what you get for the money – it’s worth it.
