The Spiro Walkman Phone Goes Pink.

It’s always exciting when a new look hits the market and with the introduction of the Spiro in pink from Sony Ericsson we see a new youthful look tailored specifically for the feminine side of the market. This new colour scheme brings a highlighted pink trim to the central Walkman control button, a pink logo and pink keys that are only revealed when the slider-keypad is opened.

Feature wise, the Spiro is a master of sound coming from the Walkman range and also offers social network integration with dedicated Facebook and Twitter applications. Communication wise the Spiro handles SMS, MMS, email and instant messaging and when you are on a night out the 2-megapixel-camera/video recorder will allow you to capture the action.

The Sony Ericsson Spiro in pink makes a great gift at only £40 on pay-as-you-go with Vodafone or an indulgent treat for the fashion conscious.

Mobiles Please Guides

At Mobiles Please we understand that it can be hard to choose from hundreds of mobiles and thousands of deals to make sure you get the perfect handset to suit you. So here is our guide to finding the perfect tariff. If you follow a few simple steps you will definitely be able to choose the right option to let you enjoy your new phone to its fullest.

The first step is to assess what usage you will require for the various charging areas, calls, text, multimedia messaging and data / Internet. The most important rule is to pick the options that will cover your usage, it is a false economy to pick a low line rental to try and save money only to then be charged a high rate for your usage once your minutes / texts have been used up. Spending an extra £5 on the line rental to get the right deal for you can easily save you £20 a month.

How many free minutes do I need?

If you have been on a contract tariff before then take a look at your last bill. The bill will clearly show what line rental you were paying for, what minutes you had and if you were charged for lots of extra calls because you didn’t have enough free minutes. It is also worth checking if you had free minutes left over, as this could suggest that you may be able to reduce the number of free minutes you receive and then maybe use that saving in another area like texts or data.

New users to contract phones can use a simple exercise to work out their expected usage. If 1 call is made per day and lasts for 3 minutes then a tariff with 100 free minutes would be ideal.

How many free text messages do I need?

Here again, take a look at an old bill or multiply your daily usage to get a monthly figure. Lots of options are available with tariffs today, such as unlimited text messaging for free (fair usage policies will apply) or a bolt on that offer a certain amount free each month.

What about multimedia messaging, video calling, mobile TV and other data / Internet services?

If you want access to these cutting edge services you will find plenty of deals where usage is either included for free (fair usage polices will apply) or a bolt on is available.

Our overall message here is to take a few moments to assess what you need and you should be a happy and satisfied user for years to come.

The Mobiles Please Guides section will be available shortly for a full run down on all you need to know about mobile phones. Have a look at all our latest mobile phones to get a really great deal on the coolest phones on the market.

Motorola goes back to basics.

If you love a bargain, you’ll love that Motorola have recently announced six new low end phones. There hasn’t been an awful lot of information about the phones but we think they will be released in Q3 and expect them to be very cheap!

Being affordable mobiles, don’t expect too many high end features but you can ensure that these phones will be reliable and easy to use devices for those who don’t want all the fancy features of a modern mobile phone.

Motorola WX260

The first items on the list are the super simple and small WX161 and WX181. These candy bar devices offer the usual call and messaging features as well as an FM radio and integrated flashlight.

For something basic but not completely void of features the WX290 includes a digital camera, flashlight, WAP browser, FM radio and Bluetooth to give you a few more options when using your mobile. These features also come in a clamshell form from the WX295 if this is more your style.

If the WX290 and WX295 sound like too much hassle to you then the WX260 may be perfect for you, especially if you love music. The WX260 provides up to 11 hours of music playback so you can listen to your favourite tunes while you are on the go as well as a WAP browser for basic Internet browsing. The WX260 also has a sibling in the form of the WX265; a clamshell form with added Bluetooth connectivity and expandable memory up to 2GB.

Vodafone launches ‘world’s cheapest phone’

cheap

Vodafone – the world’s leading mobile phone telecommunications group have announced the ‘lowest-cost mobile phone on Earth’; the Vodafone 150. Aimed at the developing world and set to be initially launched in India, Turkey and eight African countries the 150 will be priced at a tiny $15!

With a predicted 5bn mobile phone owners by the end of 2010 and most of the growth coming from the developing world The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has said that demand has been driven by people using their phones to access banking and mobile health services. ITU secretary general Dr Hamadoun Toure said, SMS can be used to “deliver instructions on when and how to take complex medication such as anti-retrovirals or vaccines”.”It’s such a simple thing to do, and yet it saves millions of dollars,” he said.

The handset is very basic with a 1inch monochrome display, polyphonic ringtones and a built in torch. It is very useful however, with the ability to make phone calls, send and receive text messages and with a battery life of 16 days standby time the 150 is a practical and affordable phone.

The 150’s slightly more advanced sibling is the Vodafone 250 which will cost around $20. The colour screen is a little bit bigger at 1.45inches making it an understated but attractive looking device and there is also an FM radio on board.

Unfortunately these devices are set for developing countries so are unlikely to enter the UK market but if you are after a cheap and fuss free handset then the Nokia 1208 is a great alternative with a SIM free price of just £25.
