Up close with the W880 AMOLED 12M

W880 AMOLED 12M

With mobile phone giants Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Nokia and LG battling it out to produce the best camera phones on the ever growing market. Samsung has announced the W880 AMOLED 12M that not only works like a professional camera, it looks like one too. This gem from Samsung is the world’s first phone to feature both a 12 megapixel camera and 3x optical zoom. The phone also boasts an impressive 3.3inch AMOLED WVGA touchscreen making viewing images a dream. With a dedicated camera power key, Mode dial and a real zoom lever it looks and feels more like a digital camera than a mobile phone, showing the evolution of mobile phones.

Samsung are allegedly set to change the name of the W880 to the Samsung M8920 but this has yet to be confirmed. For exceptional images the W880 is packed full of technological camera features including a Touch Auto-Focus feature that allows users to select a focus point with their finger where the lens will focus on and the Smart Auto feature changes its shooting mode based on lighting, background and the object it is shooting to capture beautiful images. There’s a Xenon flash, face recognition and shake reduction built in as well as 3x optical zoom to enhance the images further. There is also an excellent video recorder on board and the phone supports a microSD card to expand its memory up to 32GB.

If you can’t wait until next year for this super power camera phone Mobilesplease has a number of deals for the M8910 Pixon from Samsung and Sony Ericssons Satio.

A Flash of genius comes to smartphones.

The well known technology that enables computer users to watch videos will soon be available on most smartphones. Flash software delivers around 75% of online video and is the ‘key technology that underpins websites such as YouTube and Google Video’.  Due to the limited processing power of the devices, only a ‘light’ version has been used. The makers of Flash, Adobe have said it should be available by 2010 on most high end phones…unfortunately not including Apple’s iPhone.

With the growth of smartphones and web browsing ‘booming’, Flash 10.1, as the new software is known has been developed to supply the demand of mobile users that want their mobile to act like a computer. Flash is found on 98% on computers and is the most commonly used piece of software installed on computers. The software is expected to be available on Windows Mobile, Palm and Google Android phones early next year. This is great news for mobile users as they will now be able to stream videos on their phones much easier.

Apple does not yet have any plans to support the new Flash software. According to Anup Muraka of Adobe, “Safari (Apple’s web browser) doesn’t support any kind of plug-in [on the iPhone].” He is hoping however, that Apple will eventually join with Flash to make some very happy iPhone customers.

The Palm Pre is coming soon!

Palm Pre

In smartphone world the new kid on the block is the much anticipated Palm Pre which will be available on O2 on the 16th October. The question everybody is asking is will it be better than the iPhone? On paper the Palm Pre certainly gives the iPhone a run for it’s money with Linux-based, Palm webOS that is quite different to other smartphones with a new standard in the way it handles tasks and manages information. The super sharp multifunctional touch screen is one of the best on the market and allows you to run several applications at once, this is sure to make iPhone users a little bit jealous!

Looks-wise Palm has got it spot on with an ergonomic curve design that is inspired by nature…apparently. The unique design that features a slide out QWERTY keyboard is great for business users that love to use their phone for work and play. Unfortunately the keys on the QWERTY keyboard are pretty small for a smartphone and there is no predictive text making it even more difficult to write messages and emails at a super fast pace.

The operating system on the Palm is what makes it stand out from the crowd. The home screen is simple with only five apps that are accessible and just one extra tap to access all the apps you need. There are also some handy notification bars that alert you if you have a new email, text or song change.

The Palm Pre’s software is different to it’s competitors which I like as it is a much easier way of operating a smart mobile phone. Unfortunately Palm haven’t made a handset to shout about which is a shame as it could have been a super fantastic smartphone.

To make sure you get the best deal on the 16th October Mobilesplease compare the whole market to ensure you get the perfect deal.
